Terms of use

Short version: this is a website about what I do. Reading it does not hire me, and hiring me is covered by a separate written agreement, not by this page.

Who you are dealing with

This site is run by Jonathan Coates, a freelance developer based in Madrid, Spain, working with clients in the UK and elsewhere. You can reach me at hello@jonathancoates.co.uk.

This site is not an offer

Everything here describes the kind of work I do and how I approach it. None of it is a quote, a contract, or a promise of availability. A piece of work only starts once we have both agreed a written scope and price.

Project work

Paid work is governed by the agreement we sign for that project, which covers scope, price, timings, ownership of the code and anything else that matters. If that agreement and this page ever disagree, the agreement wins.

Case studies and examples

Work shown here is described with the client's permission or anonymised where an agreement requires it. Results described happened on those projects, in those circumstances. They are not a prediction about yours.

What you can do with the content

The words, code samples, design and images on this site are mine unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to read them, quote a short passage with a link back, and use any code sample in your own projects. Please do not republish whole articles as your own.

Links out

Where I link to someone else's site, that is because I found it useful. I do not control it and I am not responsible for what it says or does.

No warranty

I keep this site accurate and available, but I do not guarantee either. Advice here is general. It is not a substitute for looking at your actual situation, which is what the first call is for.

Liability

Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Beyond that, I am not liable for loss arising from your use of this website.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Changes

If these terms change, this page changes with them.
